Sarah Alter joined NextUp in 2017, and has wide-ranging executive leadership experience in the markets NextUp represents. Sarah has successfully expanded the scope of NextUp’s mission to include Advancing All Women, and has grown NextUp to be the largest non-profit of its type, with over 15,000 members representing over 900 organizations, 21 regions, and over 300 national and regional corporate partners. Over 50% of NextUp’s national corporate sponsors are on the Fortune or Global 500, and Sarah has built NextUp into an organization that spans industries from tech, to finance, to retail, to CPG. Additionally, she has focused NextUp on supporting women of color, building male allyship, the new generation coming into our workforce, and, more recently, how COVID-19 has impacted women in the workplace.

Anna Gifty Opoku-Agyeman is an award-winning Ghanaian-American researcher, entrepreneur, and writer. She graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 2019 with a Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics and a minor in Economics. Her new book, The Black Agenda: Bold Solutions for a Broken System, is the first collection to exclusively feature Black scholars and experts across economics, education, health, climate, criminal justice, and technology. The book has received praise from the likes of New York Times bestselling authors, Wes Moore, Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, and Chelsea Clinton. Currently, she is a graduate student at Harvard Kennedy School studying public policy and economics.

Chastity Brown
Chastity Brown is a storyteller in the blues tradition. The Minnesota-via-Tennessee songwriter and musician tells stories populated by marginalized characters to stake her own space as a queer black woman and to speak to other experiences oftentimes ignored. The daughter of a black blues musician and white Irish mother who was raised in Tennessee, she’s made a home in Minneapolis for more than a decade. She was signed by Red House Records and released her acclaimed album Silhouette of Sirens in 2017, going on to tour nationally and internationally, sharing the stage and supporting artists such as the Indigo Girls, Ani Di Franco, Andrea Gibson, Jayhawks, The National, and Michael Kiwanuka. Chastity Brown’s latest record, Sing To The Walls, was released in June 2022 and is available everywhere now.

Prior to joining The Kroger Co., she was the Regional Vice President of Houston for Lowe’s Home Improvement Inc. Laura spent 28 years at H-E-B Grocery Company where she held a variety of positions including Group Vice President of Center Store Operations for the San Antonio Food Drug Division, Border Regional Vice President of Operations, District Manager, and Store Manager.

Shilpa Vadodaria believes in questioning the status quo to build a just future. She is Amazon’s Global Innovation Lead, specializing in health and digital equity. She also serves as Global President of two employee groups – Body Positive Peers, and Women in Healthcare at Amazon. Shilpa spent the last two decades driving national reform in the US (the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid redesign), tackling the spread of HIV/STIs in South Asia, and building sanitation systems in Ghana with Engineers without Borders. After receiving her MBA from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, she joined General Mills. While at General Mills, Tiffani coached leaders on building a more diverse and inclusive marketing community and was a key leader of the Black Champions Network, which earned her the President’s Award in 2021. Currently, Tiffani is the inaugural Managing Director for the Minnesota Business Coalition for Racial Equity where she is responsible for building the organization’s strategy, structure and operational plans to address racial disparities in the state of Minnesota.
