CAU: The Ally’s Guide to Disagreements and Apologies

CAU: The Ally’s Guide to Disagreements and Apologies

About the event

Conversations about identity, diversity, and justice are some of the thorniest human interactions of our time. Even people who consider themselves “allies” may find themselves tripping over their words.

Join David Glasgow, executive director of the Meltzer Center for Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging and co-author of the award-winning book Say the Right Thing: How to Talk About Identity, Diversity, and Justice, for a discussion of practical strategies for handling two especially difficult kinds of identity conversations: disagreements and apologies.

David will share techniques for disagreeing respectfully when you have an enduring difference of opinion with your conversation partner. He will also offer tools for apologizing authentically when you have made a mistake. This session will give you the skills and confidence needed to handle challenging conversations at work and in your life more broadly.
